AN INTERVIEW WITH

KEVIN BOSTICK

JAN 2011

“My overall goal in MMA is to become a champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.”

My name is Eddie Morales and welcome to Martialforce.com Online Martial arts magazine. I want to introduce our readers to Kevin Bostick. Bostick trains in Mixed Martial Arts and fights out of the PimPit Fight Team Academy in Upland California. The Academy is owned and operated by professor Jerbo Nerney.  I first met Kevin when I joined the Pimpit Fight School in October of 2009. When I initially met Kevin he was humble and courteous. As soon as he stepped onto the mat for training he was focused and ready for whatever came toward him. His movements were sharp, fluid and intentional as he went from boxing to ground fight. Kevin has a definite feel for combat and understands that the key is in the training. We here at Martialforce.com can see he has a great future in the fight game. We hope this interview brings some insight into his life.

Martialforce.com: How did you begin training in Martial Arts?

KEVIN BOSTICK: I began when I was at Mt San Antonio College studying to become an airplane mechanic. I took a self-defense class, which was jeet kune Do and fell in love with the training.

Martialforce.com: What other arts have you studied since that time?

KEVIN BOSTICK: I have trained in Jiu jitsu for approximately two years.

Martialforce.com: Have you ever competed in MMA events?

KEVIN BOSTICK: Yes I have, I fought 5 times with a record of four wins and one loss, one TKO, one submission and two decisions.

Martialforce.com: What is your goal in MMA and have you set a time limit on this goal?

KEVIN BOSTICK: My overall goal in MMA is to become a champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship but I like to set small goals to accomplish first like when I first started training my goal was to fight within a year, which I've accomplished. My next goal is to turn pro before 2012 and to make enough money fighting to make that my career

Martialforce.com: Who is your instructor or Trainer as far as your ring experience?

KEVIN BOSTICK: My main trainer is Jerbo Nerney and my jui jitsu coach is Peter Hahn.

Martialforce.com: Can you tell our readers what is your main focus in training in regards to punch, kick, throw, ground and pound etc?

KEVIN BOSTICK: When grapple training I always try to focus on what I just learned and trying different ways of achieving the same outcome. When training stand up I focus on my strengths and reading the other persons body language trying to predict his next move so that I may counter. I study the person’s weaknesses and develop a plan to throw them off their game plan. I try to do this as quickly as possible.

Martialforce.com: How many days a week do you train to prepare for a fight?

KEVIN BOSTICK: When in my fight camp I usually train 3 times a day. I work a fulltime job and its not always possible to train the way I would like to.

Martialforce.com: Who has been your greatest influence throughout your time in Martial arts or life in general?

KEVIN BOSTICK: I try not to be influenced by others because they are not me, nor am I them, but I do admire people for their courage or if they have overcame certain obstacles in their lives. I also admire anybody who has been abused in anyway when they were younger and have used that as fuel to become something in life. It is these kind of people who are heroes to me and are leaders that people should look up too.

Martialforce.com: Where do you currently train?

KEVIN BOSTICK: I currently am fighting out of the Pimpit Fight Academy in Upland California.

Martialforce.com: Thank you for taking the time for this interview and we here at Martialforce.com wish you success in your career.

KEVIN BOSTICK: Thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts.
